Requirements for a Minor in Geology


A minor in Geology requires 16 credit hours of Geology courses, which must include Geol 101 and 102 or Geol 110 and 111.

Of the remaining 12 hours, 3 may be chosen from the following list of 100- and 200-level courses:

At least 9 hours must be upper-division (300- or 400-level). Appropriate 300- and 400-level courses for the minor are:

  • Geol 321, Geomorphology
  • Geol 331, Paleontology
  • Geol 342, Structural Geology for Engineers
  • Geol 365, Environmental Geology
  • Geol 454, Environmental & Exploration Geophysics I
  • Geol 455, Intro. to Remote Sensing
  • Geol 463, Physical Hydrogeology
  • Geol 493F, Rivers, Floods & Landslides
  • Geol 493_, other Special Topics courses

Students must achieve a grade-point average of at least 2.0 in all geology courses applied toward the minor.

Courses graded P/F may not be applied toward the geology minor.
