Visiting Committee

The Department’s visiting committee will support the mission of the department by engaging with faculty and students for on-campus activities and creating stronger ties with alumni and friends with the department. The visiting committee held an on-campus organizing meeting in October 2008 with the department chair and program chairs to discuss the committee’s organizational structure, and goal setting. Alan Brown and Linda Culp are serving as interim co-chairs of the committee. The committee was able to engage with faculty at a dinner on Thursday evening and received a tour of the Brooks Hall, and socialized with students and staff during a pizza lunch on Friday. Additional details are available in the meeting notes.

The committee established three subcommittees to address alumni outreach issues, professional development support, and web presence. The committee has met twice by conference call to make progress between meetings. The next on-campus activity will be held April 23-24. The committee will meet with Interim Dean Almasy from the Eberly College, organize a panel to address professional development issues with students in the department, and see recent research presented by faculty.
