Field Experience
there will be one or two field trips, weather depending. The first will be an afternoon trip to the Greer site (Morgantown) to see a shallow groundwater flow system and monitoring network. The second will be a Saturday trip to the DLM site. The department will provide transportation.
| The DLM Site | A well field (6", 4, and 2" wells) in an extremely-heterogeneous shallow aquifer. A 2 to 4-hour pump test will be performed, with mapping of the cone of depression moving through surrounding observation wells. Results will be interpreted using AQTESOLV as a lab exercise. Transducers and well recorders will be set up to measure response. In situ remediation works will be examined for treating acid mine drainage discharge, as well as chemical treatment of discharging springs |
| The Greer Site | A similar, but smaller, well field in a shallow unconfined aquifer. Fewer wells, and only a few of large diameter. No field testing will be performed. Measurement techniques will be reviewed. |
