EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
99-05 Present Assistant Professor, Department of Geology and Geography, West Virginia University. Structural Geology, Petroleum Geology, Tectonics.
4/98- Present Post-Doctoral Scholar, Stanford University. On going projects: Tertiary structural evolution of the Brooks Range (Alaska); dating of the Avak impact structure (Alaska); structure and thermochronology the gneiss domes of Chukotka Peninsula (Russia), New projects: Structural evolution of the southern Verkhoyansk foldbelt (NE Russia); kinematics and timing of deformation of the South Anyui suture (NE Russia) and implications for the evolution of the Arctic region. U-Pb systematics of the Brooks Range Devonian orthogneisses.
3/97- 3/98 Post-Doctoral Researcher, Institut Français du Pétrole. Supervisor: Dr. François Roure. I carried out field work, seismic interpretation and thermal and kinematic modelling using the software THRUSTPACK. This research was aimed at understanding the thermal evolution of the Eastern Cordillera thrust belt in the Colombian Andes. My work provided the regional framework for detailed studies of deep sandstone reservoirs as part of the SUBTRAP consortium which involves IFP and 14 oil companies.
10/92-3/97 Research Assistant, Stanford University. Supervisor: E.L. Miller. Projects: plate tectonic model of the Arctic region and northern Circum-Pacific; timing of deformation in the Brooks Range; deep crustal seismic transect through the Bering Straits; geologic mapping in the Seward Peninsula, Central Brooks Range (Alaska) and Chukotka (Russia); petrographic and structural analysis of samples collected in Alaska and Russia; 40Ar/39Ar and apatite fission-track thermochronology of metamorphic rocks in the Central Brooks Range and Chukotka; balanced structural cross-section and kinematic analysis of the Brooks Range thrust-belt.
10/95-3/97 Laboratory Curator, Stanford University. I managed and repaired equipment, and trained new users of the mineral separation lab, rock crushing and rock saw workshops.
10/92-5/95 Teaching Assistant, Stanford University. Taught laboratory courses for Introductory Geology, Analysis of Metamorphic Tectonites, and Structural Geology, and helped teach multiple seminars such as Cordilleran Tectonics, Tectonics of the Arctic, the Geology of the Canadian Cordillera.
6/92-8/92 Field Geologist, Cominco Exploration, Anchorage, Alaska. Carried out field mapping and sampling in search of volcanogenic massive sulfide deposits in Paleozoic metamorphic rocks of the Central Alaska Range.
10/91-3/92 Structural Geology Consultant, Ecopetrol, Bogotá, Colombia. Carried out seismic interpretations, balanced cross sections, kinematic analysis, and regional structural interpretation of two structurally complex areas in the thrust-belt of the Upper Magdalena Valley, Colombia. In this project I helped evaluate the petroleum potential of the area, identified new prospects and proposed new strategies for future exploration.
5/90- 9/90 Field Geologist, Central Alaska Exploration, Fairbanks, Alaska. Explored for gold deposits in Interior Alaska. Our crew discovered the Vinasele disseminated gold deposit, near MaGrath.
5/90-12/89 Teaching Assistant, University of Arizona, Tucson. Taught Structural Geology and Introductory Geology Laboratories.
12/85-5/88 Exploration Geologist, ESSO Colombiana Ltd., Bogotá, Colombia. Carried out seismic interpretation for the development of oil and gas prospects in the Upper Magdalena and North Coast Basins, Colombia. Our interpretations led to the discovery of the Rio Ceibas
