Prospective Student Funding
Teaching Assistantships
The Geography Program offers competitive graduate teaching assistantships to M.A. and Ph.D. students. TAs are employed to work in support of undergraduate courses across environmental geography, geographic information science, and human geography. Applicants who wish to be considered for a TA position should make that request known in their application. Additional funding opportunities may be available through the WVU Center for Resilient Communities and the WV GIS Technical Center.
Research Assistantships
The geography faculty are recruiting for Graduate positions on currently funded projects, with additional funded positions expected to be added for the 2021-2022 academic year. Applicants interested in the Graduate Research Assistantship described below are strongly encouraged to contact the research faculty prior to applying. In addition to the specific qualifications for these positions, potential candidates must meet the admission standards and be fully accepted into the Geology & Geography Department at WVU.

Funded Geography Ph.D. students are generally offered 3 years of funding
